Overview

Valerie Landrio McDevitt, J.D., CLP is the Executive Director of Research Services within the AdventHealth Research Institute. Valerie leads three research services teams:  Office of Research Integrity, Office of Sponsored Programs and Office of Intellectual Property and Development.  Research Services work is critical in implementing and strengthening clinical trials and human subjects research studies at AdventHealth.

Valerie was a former Associate Vice President at the University of South Florida (USF) for new venture development, serving the USF CONNECT program which includes the TampaBay Technology Incubator and Student Innovation Incubator. She has 20-years of experience in supporting research and technology commercialization including incubation, technology transfer, economic development programs, and related grants. Valerie led the Corridor matching Grants Program and was Co-Principal investigator on grants including NSF I-Corps and two Economic Development Administration Regional Innovative Strategies grants. In her tenure at USF, she elevated the technology transfer program to one of the top ranked both for issued US patents and executed licenses; and USF’s incubation program has been called by one reporter the “crown jewel” of Tampa Bay.

Valerie has served in statewide board positions and national committees, and was the recipient of BioFlorida’s Leadership award in 2018. Notably, she served the US Commerce Department as an adviser to the United States Patent and Trademark Office as part of the Patent Public Advisory Committee, and was appointed to serve on Florida Governor Crist’s Task Force for the Study of BioTech Competitiveness. She has a JD from Emory Law, MST in Chemistry from University of Florida, and a BS in Chemistry from Siena College.
