Bruce A. Orkin, MD, FACS, FASCRS, is a board-certified colorectal surgeon. Dr. Orkin received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and performed his general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He went on to complete prestigious fellowships in gastrointestinal research at the Mayo Clinic and in colon and rectal surgery at The Cleveland Clinic. In practice for more than three decades, Dr. Orkin is an acknowledged international authority on colorectal surgery, having published numerous research papers, review articles and chapters in this field. Topics have included the role of surgery in constipation and functional anorectal disorders, anorectal disease, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, construction and complications of ostomies (ileostomy and colostomy), and minimally invasive surgery for colon and rectal cancer.
He has also served as a guest lecturer, visiting professor and featured speaker around the country at many national and regional meetings, as well as internationally in Holland, Brazil, Denmark, Canada, China and other countries. Dr. Orkin has been actively involved in the ACGME – Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education rising to the chairmanship of the Residency Committee for Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is a member of the Executive Council of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery and a senior examiner of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
