You are being asked to take part in this research study because you have been admitted to an intensive care unit and have been diagnosed with severe COVID-19. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by a SARS-CoV-2 virus that can spread from person to person. As part of your hospital treatment for COVID-19, you treating doctor gave you the Seraph 100 Microbind Affinity Blood Filter (Seraph 100) under the Food and Drug Administration Emergency Use Authorization. The Seraph 100 is a study device that will try to reduce substances that cause infection and cause your body’s defense (immune) system to not work properly. The study device is a blood filter that filters out the virus and some proteins in your blood that may be making your condition worse. The blood is then circulated back into your body. The Seraph 100 will be explained to you by your treating doctor since the use of Seraph 100 is not part of this research study.
